What is CDS?
CDS (Combined Defence Services) is a national-level exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It recruits officers for:
- Indian Military Academy (IMA) – Dehradun
- Indian Naval Academy (INA) – Ezhimala
- Air Force Academy (AFA) – Hyderabad
- Officers Training Academy (OTA) – Chennai (Men & Women)
CDS Exam is conducted by UPSC two times in a year, and only graduates are eligible to apply. It is best suited for those who want to join the Army, Navy or Air Force as permanent commission officers.
What is AFCAT?
AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is conducted by the Indian Air Force to recruit officers for:
- Flying Branch
- Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches
It is also conducted twice a year, and both men and women can apply. AFCAT exam offers Short Service Commission (SSC) and Permanent Commission for certain branches.
